Dear Participant,
You are being asked to participate in a research study regarding Sustainability of Renewable Energy System (RES) in Nepal. Investigator Rana Bahadur Thapa is conducting this research under the supervision of Prof Bishnu Raj Upreti, Prof. Durga Devkota and Prof. Govind Raj Pokharel.
Please read the information provided in Sections A and B carefully. You can ask Investigator to explain any sections that are unclear to you.
By completing and submitting your input for group evaluation in the attached survey, you are agreeing to participate in this research.
Section A: Ranking Sustainability of renewable energy system (Alternative) with respect to dimensions of sustainability (Criteria) and Indicator (Sub-criteria)
Introduction:
Due to scattered settlements and geological situation, off-grid electrification is taking place for providing modern electricity service to the rural people of Nepal. Since establishment of AEPC (1996 AD), off-grid electrification projects are being developed with technical and financial support from the Government of Nepal and different development partners under subsidy program. Micro-hydro, Solar Home System, Solar Mini-grid, Wind-Solar Hybrid and Biomass, are the main technologies being promoted. Based on demand many projects are promoted but there is not any provision to assess systematically to have the most suitable technology for providing energy access to the rural people. This study intends to assess the alternative technologies and finding their ranking. A framework has been developed addressing various sustainability dimensions (criteria) and energy indicators (sub-criteria) as shown in Figure-1.
The objective of this survey is to find the ranking order of the sustainable energy system. In the following pages we would like to obtain your expert opinion/view through a survey questionnaire, in which you are kindly requested to make the pair-wise comparison of the alternatives with respect to the research goal.

Section- B– Information for Participants (Expert Interview)
Participants: The individuals with extensive knowledge and experience in the context of renewable energy projects from different sectors: Academia, Government, Developer, Private, NGO, Donor agency/INGO are included in the research.
Conducting Survey: The survey will be conducted through the web-based AHP solution, which is an online system: Business Performance Management Singapore (BPMSG); a supporting tool for decision-making process.
Time to complete survey: The survey will take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.
Use of Information: The obtained information will be used for completing the requirements for the study purpose. In addition, they will be used for presenting seminars, conferences and research publication. But, personnel information will be kept confidential.
